Exams and Prevention
What are Exams and Prevention?
Children require routine preventative care that involves both cleanings and exams. Both cleanings and exams help to keep your child’s mouth healthy and prevent them from developing tooth decay. Exams and cleanings are done in our office using kid-friendly terminology in a relaxed, comfortable environment. We work with kids and teens of all ages, so we look forward to having your child as our patient.
Why would your child need Exams and Prevention?
Exams are necessary because they check for signs of tooth decay before the problem is allowed to get worse. Cleanings remove hardened buildup on the teeth which could cause bad breath, gingivitis and cavities. Preventative care is important in that it prevents problems from starting in the first place while treating smaller problems before they’re allowed to get worse. Preventative care appointments even give you the chance to ask questions regarding the health of your child’s mouth.
What makes your child a good candidate for Exams and Prevention?
All children are good candidates for preventative care and exams. It is important to bring your baby into the office as soon as you begin to notice their first baby teeth coming through the gums. From that point on, you should make it a habit to bring your child in every six months. We can pre-schedule appointments for your family so that you never have to worry that you forgot to book a visit.
What can you expect during the procedure for Exams and Prevention?
Your child will be seated in one of our comfortable chairs. They will have a cleaning done by our hygienist and have their teeth polished and flossed. You will be given recommendations on products as well as techniques to brush your child’s teeth at home. If your child is old enough, we will give them instructions on how to better care for their teeth. Once the cleaning is finished, Dr. Mina will perform an exam to check for cavities, tooth development and any other problems. A treatment plan may be created if your child needs additional work.
If your child is in need of preventative care and an exam, call us today and our office staff will be thrilled to schedule an appointment for them to come in.
